Ms. Jennifer Wechsler
I am a Mathematics Instructor and General Studies Instructor at SACA. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Spanish at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. I have been teaching high school math since October 2002. Previously, I tutored mathematics at the elementary through college level and I was the Executive Coordinator of a local catering company. I grew up in a small town in Northern California. In high school I competed on the varsity ski team for 4 years, racing both slalom and giant slalom. I also played the piano and spent afternoons horseback riding on local trails. These days I spend my free time playing games with my daughter, reading, hiking, being silly with friends, and baking indulgent desserts (my favorite is a Chocolate Raspberry Torte…mmm!). I love music, especially folk, bluegrass, reggae, and jazz. When I have the chance I love going out dancing to live music, attending music & art festivals, and traveling near and far. After graduating from college I spent 4 months backpacking around Europe with my best friend, Lara. My favorite spot was the Alpujarra mountain range just outside of Granada, Spain. My favorite thing about teaching and working with high school students is getting to know my students as individuals and helping them relate to what they are learning. It is exciting to watch students master a topic that they have been struggling with. I also believe that math has gotten a bad rap over the years, and one of my goals is to overturn many of the misconceptions students have formed about math. I find that students gain confidence and self-esteem as their math skills improve, and this is very exciting! |
