In the state of Arizona "Gifted Child" is defined as any child of lawful school age who displays superior intellect, advanced learning ability, or both, and who needs special instruction and services to reach appropriate levels of achievement.


Southern Arizona Community Academy is committed to coordinating a comprehensive structure of informal and formal services intended to effectively nurture gifted learners by providing:

  • appropriate academic rigor and relevance
  • support for affective development
  • opportunities to enhance academics and
  • develop skills essential for the 21st century.


    SACA Gifted Goals:

  • Review of registration form information for student involvement in prior gifted program

    Identification for Gifted Program
    Raven used as screening instrument for all students
  • 97 percentile and above will be placed in program
  • 87 percentile and above will be considered for placement by the SACA Gifted Matrix Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)
  • 97 percentile and above will be placed in program
  • 90 percentile and above will be considered for placement by the SACA Gifted Matrix

    Goal: to develop a SACA Gifted Matrix for placement of students in the gifted program including those at risk, ELL and equity compared to school population Seminars for gifted students
